Class #8 Homework
In the past, it is common to have a massive wedding in Japan, but these days, people prefer to having small wedding, I suppose.
I don't think it is good idea to have a massive wedding! It is waste of money! I wanna be celebrated by only our family and familiar persons because wedding is not entertaiment shows! ha ha! I think wedding is ceremony to make sure vows, so I don't wanna invite so many people. I think having wedding ina foreign location is really great idea because we don't have to invite many people and also we enjoy honey moon!!
My ideal wedding is... having wedding in the small and romantic church which is located in hill!!! We can look over the city from the church!
Then, I wanna wear simple white dress and put on a long white veil! It's my dream to put on a long white veil.. Moreover, I like flowers, so I wanna bring beautiful bouquet!
Of course, my ideal man gives me smile bisides me!!!!! ha ha ha!
Superstitions Homework
Do you believe in Japanese superstitions?
If so, what superstitions, what do they mean and why do you do,use, or believe in them?
I think it is important to talk about superstitions because it strongly connects with our cultures, custom and taboo. We must know taboo in each countries and follow them when we visit there.
Then, communication is affected by superstitions, I think.
Some superstitions may hard to understand or accept but if we try to accept it, we can communicate more easily!
I guess old people tend to believe superstitions in Japan. Actually, my grandmother knows so many superstitions and she almost follows it! For example, when I try to cut my nails at night, she says "Don't do that! You can't be present at your parents's death!!" .
Of course, there is no evidence or reasons, so I don't believe in Japanese superstitions!
However, when I become sensitive about the topic, perhaps, I may follow the superstition.
Homework#3
1. Time is money. 2.A stitch in time saves nine. 3.There's no time like the present. 4. Fashionable late.
Please explain what you think are the meanings of each of the 4 expressions.
1. Time is money
There is the same proverb in Japan! It means we should not waste of time because time is really valuable. In business world, we have to work with swiftness and precision, so "Time is money" often uses in business world. For example, when people waste of time, we say "Time is money" which means "Hurry up or you will lose money(customers) ".
2. A stitch in time saves nine.
I have never heard it! However I guess it means if we do something as quickly as I can, we don't have to worry later. There is slightly same proverb in Japan. In Japanese, we say "転ばぬ先の杖" . It is hard to stitch a big rip, so we should stitch before getting big.
3. There's no time like the present.
I suppose it means this is the best chance, so we shouldn't miss it.
For example, when we try to start something new, we say it to encourage them.
4. Fashionable late
I think it means trend fashion is changing soon, so what we wear now is getting old fashion.
I suppose there is fashion cycle. For example, recently retro fashion is really popular among young people, but retro fashion got hot about 30 or40 years ago! It's really intresting.

Homework#3
After listening to the lecture and the meaning of colors in clothing, answer the following questions:1. Do you judge people according to what they wear? Why?
Honestly, I judge people according to what they wear. I think most people look appearance at first sight and appearance is connected with clothes. For example, if we look uniform, we can guess the person's job or organization. Moreover, clothes express the person's personality. Some people who is wearing expensive designer goods must be rich and proud of themselves and also they like new things. On the other hand, some people who don't care about clothes have own opinion and they aren't influenced by around people.
2 Do you think Japanese society puts an importance on clothing when judging other people from another country?
Yes, I think so.
I know it is not good to judge people by looking only clothes because I can't understand their inside face by looking just their clothes. However, first impression is really important in Japan, so clothes is one of the way to judge the person in Japanese society. Especially, foreigners stand out just their appearance, so Japanese look their clothes and judge the person.
3. What colors are you wearing now? Do they reflect your mood?
I'm wearing black shirts, black jacket and jeans now.
Yeah, I think they reflect my mood. I'm relaxing and feel comfortable now. I like black because black suit any clothes and also makes me calm down, I think. That is why I have a lot of black clothes.
Next week we will discuss friends, please prepare by answering the following questions:1. What are some subjects that you will never discuss with a friend?
I will never discuss about money and politic with my friends. I think money definitely causes trouble with friendship, so I don't lend money to my friends and borrow from them. Of course, I don't discuss with my friends about my salary at part time job because money is deeply private things. Recently, Japanese young people rarely discuss about politics with friends. Actually, we are not intrested in politics and it is too serious subject for us to discuss with friends. However, I think we need to discuss about that because politics strongly connect with our life and future, so we must think and discuss about politics more.
2. Do you have different friends for different parts of your life? If so, how are they different to you? Do you talk about different things? Go to different places? Give me some examples.Yes, I have. They already have worked as a member of society although they are same age as me. It is interesting for me to hear about their job. I talk about my free time and favorite actors and films etc.. I talk about almost same thing and go to same places as talking other friends. I go to cafe and have a lunch or go shopping sometimes.
Homework#2
a. Do you have any international friends or a host family? If so, how would you express your condolences to them if a family member died? If not, then how would you express consolences to an American host family if their Grandmother died?
Yes, I have international friends and host family.
Ummm... this is difficult question. At first, I will send e-mail as soon as possible, then I tell them not to be dissapointed too much and I wanna tell them to call me whenever you need my help.
b. Have you ever been to a foreign funeral?
No, I' ve never been to a foreign funeral.
However, I have watched a foreign funeral on some films and foreign drama.
2. The language of Clothes (preparation for next weeks topic):a.Why are Japanese designer label crazy? Why is what you wear so important?
Because, if we have no informatione for the clothes, we can't wash it properly.
Then, label is really important for people who have skin allergy to decide to buy the cloth because they might feel itchy because of some fabrics.
That is why label is important for us to wear comfortable clothes.
b.What does “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” mean to you?
I think it means don't judge people only their looks.
You have to know their inside face or character and also it means people are not just what they looks like.

Homework#1
I'd liketo enjoy this class!(^_-)-☆
1. Reflecting about today's class:Today we discussed the Japanese concept of "wrapping". Do you agree with the web site's description? What do you do that can be called "wrapping"? Give examples and reasons for your actions.
I agree with the web site's description. I think Japanese poeple tend to wrap and we don't express our feeling directly. For example, when a boss or older person ask me to eat out or hang out, I can't refuse even if I have another appointment. That is because I don't want to be disliked to them and I think there is strong connection between job and private in Japan.
In my opinion, Japanese people can't say their real feeling especially for older person, so they wrap words or something like that.
2. Preparation for the next class "Death and Funerals"
Answer these questions in your blog;a. Where do you go when you die?
I think most of Japanese people believe that we will be born again after dead.
I don't know why exactly, but I think this opinion comes from Buddhism.
In Buddhism, animate object is coming death someday, but they are born again and again.
It is called "Rinne Tensyou"(輪廻転生) in Japan.
b. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?
I suppose one of the main reason is commemorating a person's death with his or her family, so we sometimes have a lunch or dinner with family after the death memorial services and then we talk about his or him in life.
Then, I heard from a monk that we can talk to a person who died during reciting a sutra.

Computer information processing system handles deta and supports development of LAN and WAN etc.

If I were working for the UN, I would like to work at economic department.
I think the most important thing for developing countries is economic support because they need food, clothes to live immidiately. In fact, economic maintains a country. If the economic system is totally bad, the country might be destroy and people in the country definitely suffer from an economic disparity with another countries. In addition, it will cause hardship of their life. That is why we have to make economic plan and it would support them.

What is ccc?
on the front page of Yomiuri newspaper
The 4 people is 3 men and woman. They left North Korea on May 27 with a wooden boat. According to the police interview, they are family and they got out North Korea because of hardship of life. Then, One of them is a fisher. First of all, they were going to go to South Korea, but security of near the borders is strict so they went for Japan. They hope to go to South Korea.
I think it is serious problem. We always hear about terrible situation of North Korea from news paper or media. I think its getting increase people who get out North Korea. If they are found government, they maight be killed but they want to change the hardship of life. There are lots of North Korean residents in Japan and they might call their surviving family, so we must care about this problem. Its not happen to other conunty, it is also connect with our country.

Kanji shows name mean, so I know the name mean from kanji in most cases.
Typically, if the last letter of name is ”子”, it means the person is a girl. Then, if the last letter of name is ”朗” or ”太”, it means the person is a boy. Recently, however, it is hard to make out which is the girls name or boy's name. For example, "Makoto" means both names.
Moreover, I think it is getting common to get international names; "譲二"(George)to pronounce easily for foreigners.

Names and adsresses
I think so. No matter where somebody is from, it is common. Because, people always express how they feel and what they think, so feeling emotions are storongly connected with facial expressions. For example, when people feel sad, they can be crying.
There are lots of differences for each countries, but I feel the only one common thing is feeling emotions and facial expressions.

Class#4 Islam
I had changed my impression of Islam after the speach.
Before the speach, my impression of Islam wasn't so good. I had expected terrorism and armed group but I found it is only small part of Islam.
Then, I think we should know about the othere good point of Islam.
1. How do you greet people in your life? Is it different for different people? Why?
when I greet my family or my friends, I just say "Ohayou". However, when I greet elders and betters, I say "Ohayou gozaimasu" with bow. "Ohayou gozaimasu" is more polite words than "ohayou". In Japan, we use more polite words, when we talk to elders and betters. Because, we respect good manners for the long time.
2. Do you touch people when you talk to them? Why? Or Why not?
I rarely touch people when I talk to them. Especially, I never touch new people. But, If I talk to familiar persons, I may touch them sometimes. Because I think it is rude to touch people who I met at first time and also I don't really know about them.

Islam
There was suicide bomd attacks which uses a car bomb in Karbala where is holy ground of Shiite Muslim. The attacks claimed at least 60 lives and wounded 170.
The main cause of this attack is background of Sunni Mslims and Shiite Muslism relations.
My opinion
I often hear about Islam from newspaper and broadcast. Then I have seen tragic scene many times.
So I know there are lots of bomb attacks but I have no idea about why do they attack and why do they repeat same kind of attacks again and again.
Buddhism
However, we defnitely connect with Buddhism in our whole life.
For example, if one of my family die, we will cremate a body and call a monk to read a sutras.
It is typical Japanese funeral.
Many people receive company holidays during the Bon period and go back to their hometowns. Because, It is believed these spirits return to their families during the period, so we must go back to our hometown to comfort these spirits.
Japanese supiritual also connect with Buddhism.
Actually, we tend to believe "Gokuraku" . Especially, "Mujyou" is heart of Japanese spirits.
It means everything gonna be changing and goes around.
