2. The language of Clothes (preparation for next weeks topic):a.Why are Japanese designer label crazy? Why is what you wear so important?

Because, if we have no informatione for the clothes, we can't wash it properly.

Homework#1

Hi, everyone!
I'd liketo enjoy this class!(^_-)-☆

1. Reflecting about today's class:Today we discussed the Japanese concept of "wrapping". Do you agree with the web site's description? What do you do that can be called "wrapping"? Give examples and reasons for your actions.

I agree with the web site's description. I think Japanese poeple tend to wrap and we don't express our feeling directly. For example, when a boss or older person ask me to eat out or hang out, I can't refuse even if I have another appointment. That is because I don't want to be disliked to them and I think there is strong connection between job and private in Japan.
In my opinion, Japanese people can't say their real feeling especially for older person, so they wrap words or something like that.

2. Preparation for the next class "Death and Funerals"
Answer these questions in your blog;a. Where do you go when you die?

I think most of Japanese people believe that we will be born again after dead.
I don't know why exactly, but I think this opinion comes from Buddhism.
In Buddhism, animate object is coming death someday, but they are born again and again.
It is called "Rinne Tensyou"(輪廻転生) in Japan.

b. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?

I suppose one of the main reason is commemorating a person's death with his or her family, so we sometimes have a lunch or dinner with family after the death memorial services and then we talk about his or him in life.
Then, I heard from a monk that we can talk to a person who died during reciting a sutra.

The United Nations

There are five main departments in UN which are administration, economic, computer information processing system, finance, works related language.
Administration is kind of perconnel section.
Economic plans the technical support project, move ahead and motitor it etc .
Computer information processing system handles deta and supports development of LAN and WAN etc.
Finance handles accounting, management of revenues and expenditures etc.
Works related language handles translation, interpretation and editing with using 6 languages (Chnese, English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Russian)etc.

If you were working for the UN, which job would like to have using your English abilities? Why?

If I were working for the UN, I would like to work at economic department.
I think the most important thing for developing countries is economic support because they need food, clothes to live immidiately. In fact, economic maintains a country. If the economic system is totally bad, the country might be destroy and people in the country definitely suffer from an economic disparity with another countries. In addition, it will cause hardship of their life. That is why we have to make economic plan and it would support them.

What is ccc?

"4 people who escaped from North Korea were protected at Aomori in Japan"- June 3 / 07
on the front page of Yomiuri newspaper

The 4 people is 3 men and woman. They left North Korea on May 27 with a wooden boat. According to the police interview, they are family and they got out North Korea because of hardship of life. Then, One of them is a fisher. First of all, they were going to go to South Korea, but security of near the borders is strict so they went for Japan. They hope to go to South Korea.

I think it is serious problem. We always hear about terrible situation of North Korea from news paper or media. I think its getting increase people who get out North Korea. If they are found government, they maight be killed but they want to change the hardship of life. There are lots of North Korean residents in Japan and they might call their surviving family, so we must care about this problem. Its not happen to other conunty, it is also connect with our country.

Names and adress homework

answer questions in the textbook on page 9 number 1,3 and 7.

1. How do you choose a child's given name in your family?
We pick up some names from the dictionary which contains children's names. Then we find out which names is the best stroke count and go with family name.

3. Does your given name or your family name mean anything?
My given name means child of sunshine. It means to be a happy child like sunshin.

7. How do you know if names are boys' names, girls' names, or both?
Kanji shows name mean, so I know the name mean from kanji in most cases.
Typically, if the last letter of name is ”子”, it means the person is a girl. Then, if the last letter of name is ”朗” or ”太”, it means the person is a boy. Recently, however, it is hard to make out which is the girls name or boy's name. For example, "Makoto" means both names.
Moreover, I think it is getting common to get international names; "譲二"(George)to pronounce easily for foreigners.
